Mozilla Firefox is a feature-rich and highly customizable web browser that’s user-friendly enough for beginners and sophisticated enough for advanced users.

Firefox has managed to retain significant market share despite stiff competition from Google Chrome and Microsoft Internet Explorer and Edge. Speed has also been a priority of the Mozilla team, and that’s something Firefox has always and continues to do well. The UI has lagged behind at times due to that focus, but that really isn’t the case anymore. The Firefox UI is sleek, modern and customizable.

As mentioned, Firefox has always been a fast web browser, and the latest iteration may be the fastest on the market. It also boasts an intuitive and well-organized UI, which makes navigating easy and enjoyable and really lets you get the most out of the fast page loads and transitions. You may like the UI uncluttered, as it is by default, but you can also customize it to your liking if you don’t.

Firefox has all the features you expect from a modern web browser, such as a tabbed interface, synchronization and backup and restore. There’s a Panorama feature, and the option to reclaim a tab you’ve closed accidentally is really useful in practice. The browser has a clever inline search feature that finds words and phrases fast. It’s also an excellent browser for performing online research because it has integrated conveniences, such as sticky notes and archived histories.

The browser is also highly customizable through add-ons. Some of these add-ons are even developed by Mozilla but not enabled by default, such as voice tool that lets you navigate the web by speaking rather than typing. There’s also an active community of developers who make a wide range of extensions that can help you block ads, capture videos and expand bookmark management.

Firefox also offers excellent security, including the ability to block viruses, malware, phishing attempts and other threats. It also has an incognito mode that lets you surf privately, and this mode has no outward indication, so people looking over your shoulder won’t know. Security is kept current through automatic updates, which you can disable, and there are also numerous security options you can use to ramp up how strict the browser is with websites.

The browser is a bit slow to load the first time it loads in a current session. Modern CPUs tend to mask that slowness, but even if not, it’s likely a small price to pay for the speed you’ll experience with each page load and transition. Another potential issue is support. There’s an excellent knowledge base and a large community to lean on, but Mozilla is difficult to reach for direct support.
